» Christmas present for my grandad?

Hi all It's come to that time of year where I'm christmas shopping, and I'm really stumped on what to get my grandad, for the following reasons.. He doesn't read He doesn't watch tv/films His big thing is music, but he plays his organ by ear He spends a lot of his time helping various people around his town with various D.I.Y jobs (he's a nice guy like that!) Anyway, he's funny, always making jokes, and is a really nice guy, but his mind works in weird ways. Most things will bore him, but the occasional tihng will baffle him. I'm just looking for a little quirky christmas present, up to the price of around £20, that will keep him entertained for weeks on end. Does anyone know of...... - 2009-07-03

According to the IRS web site, my tax refund was direct deposited to my bank account on 6/16/06. My bank has not received this deposit. According to the info on the website, I was to wait until today (6/23/06) to contact them again because "we are unable to take any action until then". I have been trying with no success to reach an actual person to initiate action to locate my refund. I am seeking a means, either online or via phone, to let the IRS know that this money has not been deposited in my account.Have you tried contacting your local office? I am looking for a PDA or similiar handheld device with two built in USB or USB 2.0 ports. Preferably, the PDA would run CE, but I am open to other platforms if neccesary. Any suggestions? How big can the device be? I have found a device that weighs 2.5 pounds, has a 10-inch color screen, has three USB ports and runs Windows CE. Would a device such as that be acceptable? If so, I'd be happy to provide further information.A 10" screen seems a little big for the application in question, but might work. If you can find anything smaller, that would be our first preference. I recently switched jobs and have 3500 in my old companies 401K but since it is under 5k they are making me close the acct. Shoudl I roll it over into my new companies 401K (which I wont be able to do until march) or do I invest in a Roth IRA?Look at the costs and investment options of each type of account. An IRA with only $3500 will probably have annual charges that could eat up nontrival amounts of the account's returns. If you roll the money into your new 401(k), the annual expenses that result from adding $3500 may be less. Of course, you have fewer investment options with the 401(k), and you have to consider how expensive their annual charges are. There's no obvious answer. These operations cancel each other out. Example: Addition < inverse > Subtraction Multiplication < inverse > Division We also need to combine like terms. Like terms are terms where the variable and its exponent are the same. Example: 2 and 3 are like terms since they both are constants. 2x and 5x are like terms since they both have 'x' . 3x^2 and 2x are NOT like terms since x^2 and x have different exponents. Can you provide a bio of Sir H. H. McFarley? I came across two article snipets from the late 1800s that says: "England has a "Negro Knight," Sir H. H. McFarley. Sir Henry was born in Charles, SC, July 12, 1822. He ran away in 1840 and worked his way to Europe on board an English sailing vessel. He has made quite a fortune. He is said to be worth over $5,000,000. Sir Henry McFarley is a very dark gentleman with a thin but a very beautiful face, and very pleasant manners." They have done this in the past and usually let the students pose any way they want or with their friends in the photos. I thought I would take the money up front for the photos, then deliver the pictures in a week or so. Should I just print one size photo, say 5x7? What should I charge for this? Any suggestions where I could have a large number of photos (maybe 150) printed? Any suggestions or experiences you can sha...... - 2009-07-03

I am starting a meat rabbit farm in NSW, Australia. I am trying to locate some shed designs and also some designs or prices for metal rabbit cages. I can get a bank of 6 cages 3m * 1.2m * .45* for about $200 from Sydney Thanks WayeHi Whumpy More than half the info you need will not appear on a website. Therefore I can't point you to all avenues, as I would not display contact names and numbers here. The HJN cages you mention are one option. Sheds are more varied. Need to know more about you first. Your budget, target size of your rabbitry, climate location in NSW and how far you have progressed with your research and understanding of the animal's needs. » Is it possible to make a living as a full time tutor--or are tutoring jobs only part time?

I am going to be graduating with a degree in computer science, but I've been thinking that being a tutor would suit me as a good job. I dont want to be a full time public school teacher, but maybe a math tutor or something, helping individual students with problem areas. Can you make a career as a tutor, at a learning center perhaps, or do they only hire part-time workers.Unless you can book people back to back for 8 or 9 hours, then no, it's usually a side gig.If you are planning to tutor people below college age, most aren't available for tutoring except for after school and weekends, so while you might be able to cobble together a full-time job out of this, it seems somewhat unlikely.I think at the learning centers, peop...... - 2009-07-03

Up front first of all I'm not a programmer. I was looking for a search page to do on my website. The download of the Zoom Search Engine went well. Installation went with out a hitch. Ran the wizard, it created 10 index pages. I then up-loaded the files using WS FTP. I then went into the coding and change from "Search.php" it to "Search.asp". When I execute the search it goes to the ASP page of text and coding. I do not understand how to get it to go to a result page. What am I missing? China prepares vaccines for possible flu outbreaks (http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/200609/22/eng20060922_305448.html) Chinese health officials are preparing 23 million to 25 million doses of flu vaccine, after experts warned the H5N1 bird flu could break out again with other flu strains during winter and spring. The vaccines would be available from mid September, when an inoculation campaign began, said a statement by the China Preventive Medicine Association. The quantity of doses is 20 percent more than last year. Six million to seven million doses will contain no preservative, about eight times as many as last year, according to Sanofi Pasteur, the major provider of flu vaccines to China. Any ideas on how they did this water effect? http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/11453.htmlLooks like an imported After Effects loop.I guess I'll need to learn After Effects then. That's a really cool effect and looks very very real. Thanx.I can see subtle details chaning in it, so I guess it's a loop also. This effect can however be done using bitmapdata I think. I've toyed with a water-ish effect before, just not from a top-down view... I'm pretty sure it's possible.well you could use a displacement map filter with animated perlin noise over an image of the pool liningI made this one a while back, you can find some source files in the thread http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=204877well then, saves me the tim...... - 2009-07-03

It is probably the height of stupidity asking this....but I'm not too bothered really. I'm asking for the song suggestions because it is NOT my usuall type of music. My type of music would usually be along the lines of Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park etc. If your from the UK, then that would be even better. » Asian Ghost Stories

The New York Times on why Asian ghost stories are the best: Right-thinking Westerners long ago stopped referring to Asia as "the mysterious East," but it may be time to revive that concept, at least as far as the movies are concerned. When filmmakers from the Far East decide to get mysterious, they do not fool around. Hollywood does vampires reasonably well (perhaps because it has so many of them). But the cinemas of Japan and Hong Kong have a surer, clammier grip on ghosts, as Hideo Nakata's spooky "Ringu" and Danny and Oxide Pang's moody, unsettling "The Eye" have recently demonstrated. The Asian ghost story has a distinguished lineage: serious filmmakers like Kenji Mizoguchi, Masaki Kobayashi and Stanley Kwan have worked in the gen...... - 2009-07-03

» Diafine 2 bath BW film developer

I've now shot 8 rolls of Tri-X 35mm, and developed it in Accufine's Diafine 2 bath developer. I think I like this stuff a lot! It gives a 1 stop push in film speed to most regular BW films (it only gives a 1/3 to 2/3 push to tabular grain films), but it gives a 1.5 to 2 stop push to Tri-X (ISO 1250 to 1600) without really looking like it was pushed. It deals with contrasty lighting very well. 2 bath developers sort of develop to the proper contrast automatically. And it's super easy to use. You don't have to worry about temp too much; just make sure all the chems are about the same, but it doesn't have to be at 68 degrees (F). No pre-wet. Pour in solution A. It is not like as if in church the Bible is discussed 24/7. Sometimes topics about life are discussed. Plus even if God or the Bible is mentioned you can easily omit that out, if you really wanted to.WHEN I do attend, it's either for a funeral or a wedding. When it comes to either I'm not there for the sermon I am there to say my last goodbyes to the one that has passed OR I am there to celebrate the joining of two people whom are in love and are dedicated in a commitment together. Hey Guys: More questions about this furnace for my shop. I have a woodshop that is 30 ft by 20 ft with 16 ft ceilings (vaulted). The shop is well insulated R30 ceiling and R19 walls. I'm in Colorado. I have an older gas fired furnace I picked up cheap. I run it on natural gas. It is a 100,000BTU unit (way too much). I dialed down the valve (burners) to a very low setting. The furnace keeps the shop at about 65 degrees. The air coming from the furnace seems to be room temperature or a little higher rather than very hot (after I dialed it down). I currently have the unit installed near the ceiling of the shop inside the conditioned space. My thinking was that the intake is taking in warm air and the unit is in a heated space, thus improving ...... - 2009-07-03

They believe the souls of these aliens (these souls are "Body Thetans") have attached themselves to us & cause many of our mental & physical ills. Members who know about Xenu will attempt to deny it or pretend like it doesnâ ™t matter. They are required to sign a contract binding them to silence on the matter. » Removing EAccelerator Causes a Problem

I've been running eaccelerator on my servers for years so when I switched to vBulletin late last year it was natural to leave it in. In fact, I forgot it was even installed. Recently I had reason to want to stop using eaccelerator and I removed it from php.ini and restarted Apache 2. I shortly found that while vBulletin appeared to be working properly, it wasn't. When I went to make a post and hit the button to actually post (or reply to a post) it would take me to a blank page and nothing would post. I did all the usual debugging things by inserting instructions into config.php. Nothing shows in the error log either. I posted this same problem earlier when I thought it had to do with an attempt to install APC and Memcached but now I fin...... - 2009-07-03

I know this is the wrong section to post this but no one was answering my question! Thanks alot! Well i already talked to the manager in charge of the apartments were i live and he would always tell me don't worry i talked to the owner about it! So i stopped opening the windows but i found out they come in from under my front and backdoor as well! » Game- Star Wars: The Force Unleased for Nintendo Wii

Okay, let me start out by saying I am not an avid gamer. So keep that in mind as you read this quick mini-review. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is tons of fun on the Wii. From what I understand, the graphics aren't as fab as on, say, the PSP or whatever. But the main draw is using the Wiimote as your lightsaber to slice up all your enemies. Swing it left, right, up, down, and thrust - the character onscreen responds in kind. You even have the ability to toss your lightsaber at ranged opponents. You use the nunchuk attachment to control your Force powers- using the Force to shoot lightning, pick up objects and enemies, and toss 'em all over the place. Plus, with certain button combos, you can build up a Force charge that blasts everything ...... - 2009-07-03

» Poll: Did you get a flue shot or mist or noon. 10 points best answer.?

Neither. The best way to avoid the flu is good hygiene, vitamin c, and plenty of vitamin d. Flu shots don't work, in fact the heavy metal components put a strain on your system and make you more likely to get sick. They had a flu shot event at my husband's work. He was one of 2 to say no..guess which 2 were the only people not sick the next Monday? Amazing. edit..it is actually not a coincidence. I have been studying and researching adverse vaccine reactions for 3 years now and have tomes of information. You don't have to take my word for it..just start with the government's own vaccine reporting site: http://vaers.hhs.gov/info.htm You can search by any vaccine in there for all of the adverse reports. And...... - 2009-07-03

» Lee Dixon on Wenger

http://sport.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2002/08/10/sfnlee10.xml&sSheet=/sport/2002/08/10/ixfooty.html Top-notch story in the Telegraph by Lee Dixon. Dixon, who I saw mostly past his prime, was still one of my favorites. You could tell he bled red and white, he was an intelligent player who knew the ins and outs of positioning, and he always seemed to appreciate the fans. Never a superstar, perhaps underrated when it came to the national team (and even by his own fans), he gave his all for the Arsenal.I read that piece the other day and forgot to post the link in here. Definetely a must read. It really shows how the players feel about Wenger. That's why, as opposed to what Sir Alex says, Arsenal should soon become the ...... - 2009-07-03

» Optimize learning capability? what are factors that affect our learning capabilities.?

what are factors that affect our learning capabilities. (sleep, malnutrition etc...) It would be great it you could suggest books on that matter or scientific publications.. I am working on a science fair project where I will present how we learn, and the process that goes on in the brain. I will also talk about learning optimization. My question is: what are factors that affect our learning capabilities. (sleep, malnutrition etc...) It would be great it you could suggest books on that matter or scientific publications.. Thanks!!One aspect: Parental support and enthusiasm for the learning process and also financial accouterments, such as private schools, tutors, learning opportunities outside of the school curriculum.......... - 2009-07-03

» WINTER STORM NOW 12/08-11/2007: KS, OK, NE, MO, IA, CO, among others

Welp, I'm NOT going to like this drive in to work in about an hour. There has been persistent, light freezing drizzle falling here in Dodge city since about mid-evening yesterday. The temperature has slowly fallen from 30 degrees at the onset of the event to the current temperature (as of 6am) of 26F. Everything is ice... even my residential street out in front... Ice rink. Might as well break out the ice skates if I had them, and just skate in to work. it's amazing how much of a mess persistent -6 dBZ radar returns can cause. This is likely to continue all day... and Wow... how about Monday night!! I'm blogging about all of this at http://www.underthemeso.com/blogYeah I agree about Monday Night through early Wendesday for Northern O...... - 2009-07-03
